We have introduced a short turnaround testing service so that biodiesel producers be sure that all their efforts are worthwhile, in terms of ensuring quality biodiesel. Regardless of your equipment supplier or process methodology, Filtertechnik Laboratory Services offers 5 levels of service.

These basic tests determine whether a batch of biodiesel is fit for purpose, these are also especially useful tests for winter running of biodiesel as the cold weather will cause problems with biofuels that cannot stand up to this degree of analytical testing due to the fact that cold weather lowers viscosity and increases density.

There is also a water test included as water is the second most harmful fuel contaminant (after solid contaminants) and can cause serious damage to a fuel delivery system. Water being present in biodiesel also causes the degradation of lubrication oil, which makes engines sound and perform very poorly indeed.

These tests are advised for professional producers and those who are reselling their fuel. The Ester Content is important as if a biodiesel contains less than a 96.5% conversion ratio of Free Fatty Acids to Methyl Esters, then the Fuel DOES NOT MEET HMRC CRITERIA and DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE BIOFUEL or HOMEBREW TAX BREAKS.
